We serve customers who are importing goods into New Zealand in commercial quantities by providing:
Freight Brokerage
Identifying and reserving space for your imported goods with a reliable carrier at reasonable and competitive rates.
Ensuring that your goods are loaded at the designated point of collection in the country of export and shipped on time and in a proper order to the designated place of delivery within New Zealand.
Customs Brokerage
Completing the import entry clearance formalities before arrival of the imported goods (up to 5 days for the ocean and one day for air) using industry standard software known as Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) to complete a standard import entry.
For imported goods with a Customs value of less than NZ$1,000 and Customs charges of more than NZ$60 payable we will complete a simplified import entry. For imported goods with a value less than NZ$1,000 that have Customs fees of less than NZ$60 payable we will use the simplified Electronic Cargo Information (ECI) approach.
For first time importers, we can also assist you to obtain a “client code” and a “supplier code”, as may be appropriate. We can also deploy new standard operating procedures with you to ensure that the import clearance formalities commence in advance of the goods arrival.
We also ensure that our importing customers comply with the biosecurity requirements of the recently formed Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI).
Cash flow enhancements
You may also benefit, subject to NZ Customs approval, from the deferred payment scheme – goods can import, and the corresponding customs duty and GST paid on the 20th of the month following import – where large volumes of products are frequently imported.
Tariff classification determination
We assist customers in determining the correct tariff classification (HS Code) for the imported goods to be assessed for customs duty at an appropriate rate. Once the HS Code has established, we then assist customers in obtaining additional permits or clearances, depending on the type of goods. As necessary, we can also help customers to get tariff rulings from NZ Customs directly.
Value for duty (VFD) determination
Customs duties and import GST (15%) are assessed on an ad valorem basis as a percentage of the goods' value. We assist customers in determining the correct value for duty (VFD), including distinguishing any non-dutiable costs from the VFD in order to save you customs duty costs. As necessary, we can also assist customers to obtain valuation rulings from NZ Customs directly.
Preferential tariff determination
Goods imported from individual countries can benefit from lower customs duty rates, therefore reducing your total landed cost. New Zealand has entered into various preferential trading arrangements with several trading parties. We will ensure that your goods are correctly declared so that you can claim a lower import customs duty rate.
Preferential trading arrangements are relevant when importing goods from the following source countries:
New Zealand is currently negotiating or considering further preferential trading arrangements with the following countries:
Once implemented, further cost saving opportunities will exist under these new Free Trade Agreements.
We can also assist clients to seek other tariff concessions such as in the case of goods temporarily imported into New Zealand and goods imported were no equivalent product is manufactured domestically.
